What is a snake draft?

A snake draft is a popular method of drafting players in fantasy sports leagues, particularly in fantasy football and fantasy basketball. In a snake draft, the order of selection reverses after each round, resembling the shape of a snake as it moves back and forth.

For example, if there are 10 teams in a fantasy football league, the team that picks first in the first round will pick last in the second round, then first again in the third round, and so on. This format ensures that each team has an equal opportunity to draft top-tier players, as well as giving teams at the end of the draft order an advantage in selecting two players in a row.

Snake drafts are preferred by many fantasy sports enthusiasts because they are fair and balanced, allowing for competitive play and strategic decision-making. Additionally, they are simple to understand and execute, making them accessible to fantasy sports players of all levels.
